Early update of packing information prior to goods issue with Advanced shipping & receiving (ASR) in SAP S/4HANA 2022 release

 Advanced shipping & receiving (ASR) is a new solution for the integration of Transportation management ( TM ) and Extended warehouse management (EWM) as introduced in Feature pack 1 (FPS1) of S/4HANA 2020 release. Initial ASR solution is being enhanced to cater to the real-life scenarios in next releases of S/4HANA.

In earlier SAP solution, update of packing information to ERP delivery from EWM happens after goods issue which is quite late in the supply chain process. Early update of packing information to ERP delivery for TM – EWM integration with EWM transportation unit (TU) was provided in 2021 release as described in my blog https://blogs.sap.com/2021/12/10/early-updates-with-packing-information-in-tm-ewm-integration-with-ewm-transportation-unit-in-s-4hana-2021-release/ . SAP has now provided the functionality of Early update also with ASR flow with 2022 release. My present blog is to describe the same.

Once Picking & packing are complete in EWM , early update can be sent from EWM to ERP delivery by setting the Outbound delivery order  (ODO) with status “ Set to ready for shipping” as depicted in below flow diagram and

Note that ‘Shipping readiness (DSH)’ is ready in EWM ODO, but the ‘Goods issue DGI’ is not done as displayed in below screenshot. 

EWM ODO 80003112 has been packed with packaging material CARTON_S and its handling unit number is 4550000000. These information have been updated in ERP delivery as depicted in below image though the goods issue has not yet happened on that delivery. 

Also, like to inform that the update through the status ‘Set ready for shipping DSH’ is only relevant for ASR flow as is evident from the error message in below screenshot.

ASR updates the specific EWM information to freight order immediately and the handling unit is updated in freight order instantly as shown in below image.

This early update of packing information facilitates the preparation of custom / export documents , delivery note , proforma invoice etc much earlier than goods issue of the delivery.

This blog is based on my personal tests, observations in with ASR flow in S/4HANA 2022 release. Will appreciate your feedback / comments.
